Ischgl’s continually improving ski facilities now include 205 km of groomed trails and an uplift system with two cable cars, three gondolas, 20 chairlifts, and 17 tows. The downhill runs here suit intermediates best, but advanced skiers hire guides and head off-piste, while beginners take to the Idalp’s sunny runs.

The Smugglers’ Run is a cross-border route from Ischgl to Samnaun, Switzerland. The attractions? Duty-free shopping and the enduring thrill of crossing an international border on skis, foot, or bike. Although the most direct route between the two villages is via ski and lift, pedestrians can make this run year-round with the purchase of the Schmugglerticket lift pass.
The pass is good for a round-trip journey on the four lifts en route to Samnaun, and bikes can tag along, too, for no additional charge. A planning tip: Many duty-free shops close Sundays.
