On the southeastern slopes of Monte Pisano, Bientina’s main square is dominated by the squat tower of the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta with Museo d’Arte Sacra its prized possession is the remains of the martyr St. Valentine. Otherwise, the town is best known for the drainage of its lake (at one time the largest lake in inland Tuscany), which represented one of the most complex stages of the area’s land reclamation works in the mid-19th century.
