Innsbruck’s popular panoramic climbing route surmounts seven summits from Hafelekar to the Frau-Hitt-Sattel along a 3,000-m secured climbing route. It’s not a particularly difficult climb, but newcomers should ask the advice and services of the Alpinschule Innsbruck in Natters.

In Tux, the Bergsportschule Tux offers instruction for serious outdoorsmen and guiding across an array of mountaineering disciplines. They also offer climbing courses for children – although I imagine that there aren’t many mothers outside of Austria who wish to see their six-year-olds dangling from an ice wall by ice pick and crampon.

New in Innsbruck is the rare opportunity to hop aboard a Floss raft, here a modern take on an old Alpine tradition. Each of the modern floats incorporates umbrella tables, beer service, and lots of convivial fun. Floss rafting trips set sail each Thursday from May through October, launching from the Kranebitten district on the western outskirts of town and finishing at the Löwenhaus Inn.
