Frog & Onion, The Cooperage, Royal Naval Dockyard. This has long been one of my favorites. A British-style pub set inside what once was the barrel making factory for the British Royal Navy, it really does have a little of the old-English atmosphere that’s hard to find now, even in the country pubs of the UK. The specialty is English beer, expensive at $4.75 a pint, but the real thing: Newcastle Brown,Watney’s, Flower’s, all on draft, along with that good old Irish mainstay, Guinness. I love Guinness and was surprised to find that this was one of the few establishments on Bermuda that bothers to stock it. I read a book once whose hero claimed he had only three rea-sons for living: the fear of death, Goldie Hawn no, it’s not Kurt Russell, and Guinness. I know what he means. The food at the Frog & Onion is your basic pub fare: pies, fish and chips and a variety of sandwiches. For dessert, you might like to try their English trifle. Open daily for lunch and dinner until midnight. Reservations not required. Take number 7 or 8 bus from Hamilton, or the ferry from all points around the Great Sound.
