Carate is the last beach area before Corcovado, and the most popular entrance into the park. Its natural beauty is amazing. Jungle cascades down to the deserted black beach and scarlet macaws swoop from tree to tree. On the way here you’ll pass Terrapin Lodge, a Tico-owned lodge built in early 2000. In a rustic style, the five cabins are made with warm woods and bamboo and have metal roofs. The price includes three meals. Seven sea kayaks are available to use in the lagoon, although it’s a one-hour walk on the beach to the park. The local guide for tours has 23 years experience.
