Beauduc Beach is the hardest to find and the best – 28 km/17.4 miles of natural, wild white sand beach. A shambling assortment of illegal fishermen’s shacks, caravans and trailers at the end of a track includes two remarkably popular restaurants on the sand, Marc et Mireille and Chez Juju. Otherwise the wide, empty beach feels like the end of the world. To get there from Arles, take the D570 South or the D570 North from Les Saintes Maries de la Mer to the D36 South signposted Le Sambuc, Salin de Giraud and Plage de Piémançon. Turn right onto the D36b follow signs for La Capelière. You will be skirting the Camargue Nature Reserve so watch for birds and wildlife. Continue past Salin de Badon a large house near a big pine tree for about eight km/4.8 miles.Watch for a small sign directing you to Restaurant Marc et Mireille. This will be a right turn onto an even smaller, unpaved road. If you arrive in the small town of Salin de Giraud, you have gone too far. When the road widens out to white sand, you are there. One word of warning – the tracks wind through marshland and lagoons so leave plenty of daylight for your return journey. Also, be careful not to park facing the wind. This beach has sufficient wind for kite surfing 300 days per year and it will drive sand into your engine.
