Elsewhere in Aigues Mortes, offers gypsy music and occasional flamenco in an 18th-century building they claim it is the oldest restaurant in town. A big inglenook fireplace dominates the main room and the patio is shaded with vine leaves. It is probably a bit touristique, but gastronomy isn’t this area’s strong point so you might as well have fun soaking up atmosphere. Alongside various grilled foods, local specialties include gardianne de taureau a long-simmered stew of marinated bull, olives and vegetables and rouille de poulpes octopus in a strong, garlicky sauce.
