The Eremitage Altes Schloss, outside Bayreuth, was the pleasure garden and palace of the margraves. The influence of Margravine Wilhelmine is evident in many features, including the interior of the Altes Schloss (Old Palace). Its most impressive room is the Japanese Hall, with Asian furniture and decorations typical of the chinoiserie in vogue at the time. The garden features fountains, fake grottos, and the fake ruin of a theater. The mid-18th-century Neues Schloss (New Palace) was destroyed duringWorldWar II but was rebuilt and has a Temple of the Sun in its center. The musical fountains play daily from May to October, 10 am to 5 pm on the hour. Admission is Euro 3 and includes the obligatory tour. The park is open for free.
