Created in the 1950s in homage to Carlo Lorenzini’s (pen name Carlo Collodi) most famous tale, Il Parco di Pinocchio offers the kind of cultural journey that puts to shame the Disney theme parks most children now grown up on. Split into two sections, the oldest (created in 1956) displays character statues by Emilio Greco and Venturino Venturi, while the newer “Toy Land” walks you through the plot of the story with the help of 21 statues by Pietro Consagra. There’s also an inn planned by Giovanni Michelucci (architect of Florence’s train station and prestigious churches), a summer palace designed by Diodati and, for young kids, a year-round glove puppet show.
