Another of the towns along the Via Flaminia, Costacciaro grew up around the medieval fortress built here by the ruling Urbino Counts to defend the zone from attack. These days, a popular holiday destination for hikers, horseback riders and cavers drawn to the adventures on Mt Cucco, the town has the pretty Chiesa di San Francesco with a stunning limestone façade, the imposing defensive tower of Il Rivellino, and the Torre Roccaccia, originally the town’s defensive tower.
