The 15th- to 16th-century abbey complex built on the site of an 11th-century monastery is on an ancient road leading to Este at the foot of the hills and just outside the small town of Teolo. Italy’s largest community of monks lives in the four-cloister complex. They grow herbs and plants and have an ancient book restoration workshop. The landscape surrounding the abbey is characterized by vineyards, vegetable gardens, orchards and an apiary. The monk-led tour also stops into the 16th-century library, with nearly 100,000 books and 17th-century paintings by Zelotti on the wooden ceiling.
