Although Locanda offers travelers a bit of almost everything, the key attraction even for locals is its kitchen, inspired by proprietor Silvia’s grandmother, Amelia. At the foot of Monte Grappa, this famiy- owned restaurant and inn is a local favorite year-round but a particular favorite among active mountain travelers during the summer months. Its two main dining rooms are tastefully decorated with copper pots and local ceramics and its unpretentious atmosphere makes this a great place to enjoy a relaxed meal after a long day. Ask to be seated in the front dining room opposite the bar or in the terrace room out front for a more intimate meal, but if tables here are full or you have a large group, the dining area behind the kitchen allows for easy access to the antipasti bar. You can ask the friendly wait staff to prepare a mixed antipasti plate, but I prefer to visit the antipasti bar myself to sample the large array of warm and cold antipasti that are the highlight of owner Silvia’s kitchen. The bigoli con anatra (pasta with duck sauce) and risotto dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients are popular choices for a first course and the tagliata di manzo (a prime cut of beef) served with a choice of roasted potatoes and greens is one of their specialties. Don’t leave without sampling a sorbetto, their famous refreshing digestive drink. I’ve enjoyed many dinners at Locanda and each time I look at my bill I’m amazed at the value.
