When 30,000 people came for the grand opening of the Excelsior in 1907, it was destined to become an upscale summer resort for the international jet set. The high society hotel’s guest list has included such illustrious guests as Winston Churchill, along with scores of others who have arrived for Venice’s annual film festival. The Moorish-style hotel is the epitome of luxury on the Lido, characterized by expertly manicured gardens, extravagant suites and premier restaurants serving fineinternational cuisine.
