With the help of his Greek-born wife Naxina, the entrepreneurial Giorgio Quadri purchased a small coffee shop in 1775 and was responsible for helping develop the Venetians’ taste for coffee. Over time the caffè became a fashionable hangout for illustrious patrons like Stendhal, Byron, Proust and even Wagner, who took his coffee here religiously each morning. A romantic feeling pervades Quadri’s dining rooms, ffrom its creamy green and yellow hued walls and elegant frescoes to its tables delicately set with fine china. Quadri’s menu includes pastries and toasts in addition to its coffees and aperitifs, and you’ll pay an extra i4.40 per person when the orchestra is playing.
