When American cyclist and tri-athlete Lisa Dolza first came to the Valbrenta zone to train more than a decade ago, she didn’t expect to find a new home. But the Michigan native became so enamored with the richness of the zone and the diversity of the cycling that she founded her own cycling company in the Brenta river valley in the 1990s. Recreational and professional cyclists have profited from CMI’s cycling holiday program that, unlike many others, has a fixed home base where participants return each night. From April through October local English-speaking guides lead groups of no greater than 10 cyclists on daily itineraries that range from 30-80 miles and can be tailored to the fitness and interest levels of clients. Most guided rides take place in the morning and participants are free to spend their afternoons sightseeing and engaging in other activities such as kayaking, white water rafting and paragliding. At time of publication the weeklong program cost for one person was i1,500 and included guided daily rides, use of high-performance road bikes and hybrid bikes, airport pick-up in Venice, lodging and two meals daily. CMI also caters to cyclists who prefer embarking on self-guided itineraries, providing them with all of the necessary route and itinerary guidance. Most programs are weeklong during high season, but Lisa will arrange abbreviated programs (for a minimum of three days) when scheduling permits.
