The upside to staying outside the walled city of Toledo in the Parador Conde de Orgaz de Toledo is that the panoramic views of the city are spectacular. The parador is located atop the hill (cerro) of the Emperor in the barrio known as Cigarrales with a look emblematic of the function-first Castilian style – deep wood accents of ceiling beams and balconies contrast with the whitewashed interior walls and chalky stone exterior surfaces. Again, the views. A swimming pool lies in the crook of this U-shaped hotel that in name pays homage to one of the most famous works of Toledo’s favorite son, the painter El Greco.
