The liveliest cava bar in town is Xampanyería a few blocks off the Port Vell. Expect crowds overflowing in the streets and elbow-rubbing good times. A bottle of cava costs 1.50 Euro with the purchase of a tapa. The choices are listed on a chalkboard behind the wall. You’ll most likely have to shout to get your order heard (a tip – go to the middle-aged man at the center of the bar; he’s the most efficient). During the day you can pick up bottles at the store in the rear of the bar for 1 Euro. By nighttime the shop closes down and the crowds take over. Get there early to beat the rush and the last call, which is at 10 pm.
