To reach El Figón de Eustaquio follow Gran Vía out of the Plaza Mayor to the smaller Plaza de San Juan. There you will find one of Cáceres’ most popular local establishments, revered for its wild game when in season and for its migas extremeñas all year round. This is a simple dish composed of day-old bread softened with salt water and paprika, then cooked to a golden brown with fried bacon and peppers. Prices are under 15 Euro for either the menu de la casa or the menu regional and, for a drink, the local Ribera de Guadiana wines are stocked here. Try a white claret or a red from the Tierra de los Barros, Extremadura’s only classified wine-growing region.
