The subterranean rivers of La Vall D’Uixó offer a unique underground boating experience. The village of La Vall D’Uixó is 20 km (12.5 miles) southwest of Castellón on the Ctra Nacional 340. Take the exit for Nules. Known as the Caverns of San José, this underwater river has over 2.5 km (1½ miles) of navigable waters through rocky chambers shaped by the water through the ages. It is reputedly the longest cave of its kind in Europe. The boating guides observe changing departure hours depending on the season and water level. Morning departures leave at either 10:30 or 11 am and return roughly an hour and a half later. Afternoon departures leave at 3:30 and, depending on the season, return some time between 5 pm and 6:30 pm.
