An easy four-mile hike is rewarded when you arrive at Perseverance Mine in Silverbow Basin. The community was active from 1885 to 1921 and you can still poke around the entrance to the caved-in shaft. Use a bit of caution during your hike; a landslide in the 1990s left some steep drop-offs along the trail, and icy patches can occur into the summer months. There is a brochure that explains the history of the Perseverance Mine. It is available at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum and is well worth the $1 price tag.
