The Emigrant Trail Museum, located in the Donner Memorial State Park in Truckee, is devoted to the history of the region. It has on display artifacts depicting the life of the pioneers who arrived here beginning in the mid 1800s.
The museum also has a film recounting the tragic story of the Donner Party, which traveled westward from Missouri in April 1846 and became hopelessly lost and trapped in this part of the High Sierras, ultimately resorting to cannibalism and perishing here.
