Highly-regarded Napa Valley winery, established in 1966 by Robert Mondavi, who left the family-owned Charles Krug Winery to make wine in his own style. The winery is housed in a striking Italian-Mediterranean stucco building, situated among estate vineyards. Mondavi produces primarily vintage-dated varietal wines from his 1,000 acres or so of estate vineyards, located in the Oak Knoll area along the Silverado Trail and at the foot of the Mayacamas Mountains near the winery. Offerings including Cabernet Sauvignon—including a reserve bottling—Chardonnay, Fumé Blanc. Chenin Blanc, Johannisberg Riesling, Gamay Rosé, Napa Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel. A Bordeaux-style proprietary red wine, “Opus One,” is also produced in a joint venture with the late Baron Phillipe de Rothschild interests. The winery also features an art gallery and a wine and gift shop; and during summer, several jazz and other live music concerts are held here as well. In addition to its flagship winery, Robert Mondavi also owns Opus One (Napa Valley), Woodbridge (Amador County), Arrowood (Sonoma County) and Byron (Santa Maria) wineries. Tours, tasting and sales daily 9am-5pm. A variety of tours is offered; tour reservations recommended.
