The Zillertal

The magnificent Ziller Valley, or Zillertal, runs 30 km from the A12 Autobahn at Jenbach to Mayrhofen at its southern head. Along the way, the valley links a dozen small villages, many with their own lifts, side-valleys, and lakes. In winter, the all-area ski pass includes access to 150 lifts and 500 km of groomed runs. Climbers come from all around to conquer the region’s cliffs and crevasses. In summer, trails wind among the villages and the mountain huts above, drawing hikers and bikers; the Ziller River spills down the valley’s center, tempting watersports enthusiasts; and the peaks rise all around, beckoning to paragliders and rock-climbers.

At the southernmost tip of the valley, above the hamlet of Tux, the Hintertux Glacier obliges snow-sport lovers with year-round skiing and snowboarding. It also offers some of Austria’s best off-season racing camps.
