Deyuelou is one of the city’s oldest restaurants and is well worth a visit. It’s been operating for 400 years and is particularly famous for its “garden food” style of presentation. This style uses food to resemble all the elements of Suzhou’s gardens, including flowers, rocks and trees, and includes bizarre dishes such as hedgehog-shaped buns and ham and vegetable fans! If you’re keener on eating your food than looking at it, stick to the restaurant’s Suzhou specialties the braised chicken is delicious.
