Naranjo
Naranjo is the next town you’ll reach after Sarchi. Sleepy, small, agricultural, rural, a crossroads, a gateway – Naranjo is all of these. But its also a jumping-off point for Tropical Bungee (506/232-3956), where jumping off the nearby Río Colorado bridge is exhilarating by any stretch of the imagination. Or try rappelling deep into the Colorado gorge with Rappell Adventuras (506/494-5102) for about US $20 (equipment and instructor included). This is great adventure – technically thrilling yet not too difficult for beginners. Afterward, you can ascend the cliff face or hike back up a trail. The Serendipity Tours’ hot-air balloon leaves from this area as well (506/556-2592).
Thirteen km/eight miles west of Naranjo on the road to Zarcero is Restaurante El Mirador, which offers good Tico food and fabulous views of Tico land.
