St-Jean-De-Luz
St-Jean-De-Luz is easily the loveliest city in the French Basque Country. In fact, it is a veritable jewel, with its cozy beach and alluring downtown. And while Bayonne, its more populated neighbor, is showing its age, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is as clean as crisp, white French table linen. Its delightful squares, quaint pedestrian shopping area and the covered market, make this an endearing and absolutely charming city to visit. The pet peeve here, however, is the lack of parking, which is particularly acute during the peak tourist season.
Shopping in Saint-Jean-de-Luz
While shopping is plentiful in all the cities in the French Basque Country, Saint-Jean-de-Luz is particularly notable for its colorful boutiques. A good place to both shop and browse is the city’s pedestrian shopping zone. On Tuesdays and Friday mornings there's an added bonus: Saint-Jean-de-Luz' vibrant covered market on rue Gambetta.
