Boating on the Canal du Rhône à Sète is a gentle way to experience the changing landscape between Provence and the Camargue Provençal. From its beginning at Beaucaire, the canal winds through sun-bleached villages toward the sea. It crosses the Camargue salt marshes and, for its last stretch, rides over the edge of the Mediterranean itself. Canal boats, or pénichettes, for two to 12 persons can be rented without any special license or permit.
