A somewhat more challenging walk of about 15 km/9½ miles leaves the Eygalierès loop and continues west along the main branch of the GR6. This path takes you to the edge of the Calan cliffs and climbs steadily along the cliff edges to 390 m/1,300 feet at the Plateau de la Caume, before a gradual descent into St. Rémy. Heading south on the GR6 from Eygalierès, cross the D24 leaving the loop path and continue in a northwesterly direction along the GR6. Turn left at the edge of the Aerodrome for a short, steep hike two km/1.25 miles over the crest of Les Calans into the Col de Vallongue alt. 250 m/820 feet). The path continues westward, steadily climbing the escarpment for about six km/3¾ miles. Bring plenty of water and trail mix. This is a long, satisfying and occasionally challenging hill walk. A taxi back to Eygalierès is relatively inexpensive. Or book in advance to stay over in St. Rémy.
