Across the road from Les Antiques and Van Gogh’s sanctuary until about three months before his death, the monastery is today a private sanitorium for women. A church has existed on this site since the 10th century; some say since the beginning of Christianity in Provence. Parts of the site, including the church, cloister, gardens and olive groves, as well as Van Gogh’s room, are open for discrete visits. Interestingly, art is used as therapy here and it is fascinating to look at the patients’ paintings, which are for sale in the gift shop.
