These two first-century BC Roman monuments probably marked the entrance to Glanum on the Via Domitia, the Roman road between Italy and Spain. The Mausolée des Jules is not, as you might think, a memorial to Julius Caesar, but is an unusual funerary monument built for a family known as the Julii about 30 BC. The Arc de Triomphe, built about 10 years later, commemorates and illustrates the Roman conquest of Gaul. On Avenue Van Gogh, South of St. Rèmy. Admission free.
