A 15-minute walk south of the center of town, Glanum is one of France’s major classical sites. The Roman town occupies an even more ancient site. Recent excavations have ncovered an Iron Age settlement. Celto-Ligurians, in the first millenium BC, were followed by phocean Greeks, who established a religious and commercial center. Roman occupation in the first century BC followed the usual pattern of their towns – thermal baths, villas, religious sites and fortifications. Much of this can now be visited. From May to December, you can sample typical Roman dishes at the Taberna Romana,
