Halfway between Port Grimaud and Ste Maxime, Hotel Le Beauvallon is a Belle Époque grand hotel of the sort you might expect to find around Antibes, Cannes and Nice. That’s no accident. When it was built in 1914, the owners planned to emulate the grand palace hotels that were going up along the Riviera. It quickly had the stamp of approval from the Jazz Age celebrities who virtually invented the Riviera. According to legend, F. Scott Fitzgerald conceived Tender is the Night here. The hotel is a huge pink estate with 70 rooms, loads of salons, dining rooms and ballrooms, set on a hill, surrounded by acres of sweeping, manicured lawns. It promotes itself as a retreat for guests who want total privacy, within easy reach of the St. Tropez buzz. The private beach, reached through a tunnel under the road, is one of the largest along this part of the coast. The hotel’s free launch ferries guests to St. Tropez and the beaches of Pampelonne throughout the day. There are private spa studios offering luxury treatment. And for golfers, the hotel adjoins two championship quality courses where guests have privileges. Golf de Beauvallon has a minimum handicap of 24 for men, 28 for women. There is no minimum handicap at the Golf de Sainte Maxime. During the off-season, the Beauvallon offers several golf packages.
