Village houses and flats that rent by the week and sometimes the weekend are a good alternative in this region and certainly what most French visitors do. Homes are generally nicely furnished with well-equipped kitchens. Because private rental accommodation tends to be less formal and more personal, the listings change from year to year. Local tourist offices and Gîtes de France are your best sources for finding what’s available when you want to go. If you can handle French, L’Annuaire Hébergement Rural en France HRFrance, is another good source for rural gîtes and online booking. Here are descriptions of some typical properties: Sleeps six. Renovated house with reception, fully equipped kitchen, two rooms with double beds, one room with twin beds, two bathrooms with shower and WC. Washing machine, infant bed and chair, linens supplied. Weekly rental euro 350 to euro 540, depending upon the season.
