A pleasant small option with an excellent restaurant is the Hotel Klosterschenke in Trier-Pfalzel. It is seven km (4.2 miles) downstream and on the opposite bank of the Mosel in a former fourth-century monastery. Each of the 11 rooms is individually furnished in widely different styles. The restaurant serves Mediterranean and local dishes in a room with vaulted ceilings. Reservations are recommended. The hotel can most easily be reached by car, but it is also a stop on the riverboats from Trier, and the Mosel Cycling path passes right in front of the hotel.
