Delta Junction and Tok

Delta JunctionLocated south of Fairbanks and North Pole, Delta Junction is where the Alaska Highway actually ends and Richardson Highway begins. The town offers easy access to a handful of parks and recreation areas, among them the Big Delta State Historical Park, some 9 miles to the north, where you can view relics from the region’s pioneer era, as well as old photographs and Athabascan Indian artifacts; the Clearwater State Recreation Area, just to the east of town, which offers good camping and fishing possibilities and also boat access to both the Goodpaster and Tanana rivers; and the Quartz Lake State Recreation Area, also quite close to Delta Junction, which again has good camping, fishing and boating. Nearby, too, you can visit the Delta Bison Range to see real, live American bison on the range.TokTok is the trade center for several of the region’s Athabascan Indian villages. situated a little way to the southeast of Delta Junction on the Alaska Highway, between the Alaska Range and the Tanana River, and quite close to the Canadian Yukon Territory. In Tok, you can search out the Tok Public Lands Information center, which not only has visitor information, but also museum displays and screenings of wildlife films.Nearby, to the northeast of Tok lies Eagle, an old, gold rush-era transportation center, where the park headquarters for the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve are now located. Also, from Eagle you can take a multi-day river trip down the Yukon to Circle, an adventure in itself.
