Being the oldest and smallest of anything aren't normally qualities a Vegas property brags about - unless it's the Golden Gate hotel and casino in downtown Las Vegas. Opened in 1906 at One Fremont Street, this 106 room establishment proudly stands as a quaint, historic property alongside the Golden Nugget and the flashy, high-tech Fremont Street Experience. The 11,000-square-foot casino floor may be little but it packs in a lot of excitement, with more than 400 slot machines, a Leroy's sports-betting counter, a variety of table games, an old-fashioned bar and a baby grand piano that gets played nightly. The marquee attraction for the last half-century, though, has been the shrimp cocktail at the San Francisco deli. Served in a tulip sundae glass with the Golden Gate's secret cocktail sauce, this spicy delight costs only 99 cents. No wonder they've sold 25 million of them! For a more upscale dining experience, there's the Bay City Diner, featuring seafood and steaks.
