Under the new ownership of the Barrick Gaming Corporation, the Plaza hotel and casino has set out to be a major player in the effort to reshape downtown Las Vegas. The old property has been given a seven-figure renovation as well as snappy new logo inspired by the retro-Vegas movement. Meantime, the fresh ideas have the action picking up again at the Plaza, which anchors the Fremont Street Experience from its Main Street location. Boasting "real values, real people, classic fun," the resort draws tourists who want a big time for a small price. Indeed, the 1,000-plus-room hotel - one of downtown's biggest - offers a lot of destination for the money. Hotel amenities include an outdoor sports deck with swimming pool, four tennis courts, private cabanas, indoor fitness center, and beauty salon. The Plaza has a dynamic mix of restaurants - including Lombardi;s Italian Kitchen. Plus Lucky 7's Buffet and the Deli Express along with a food court. The 87,000-square-foot casino has more than 800 slots, all the table games, race and sports book, bingo parlor and a variety of promotions, including the return of an old Vegas favorite: a free pull on a gigantic slot machine and there are five bars and lounges.
