Lukács Baths (Lukács Furdo)

In the 12th century the Knights of St. John and the Knights of St. Rhodes/Malta settled near the present site of the Lukács Medicinal Bath. Their avowed mission was to look after the sick and so they built these baths next to their monasteries as an aspect of their treatments. The pump room was completed in 1937. The first full-service medicinal bath section (outpatient hospital) in Budapest was created in the Lukács in 1979.

This is the first swimming park, as you enter the Island from Margit Híd (Margaret Bridge). While families can enjoy themselves, this is where serious watersports enthusiasts will find a home. It is open from 6 am to 5 pm Mon to Fri, 6 am-6 pm Sat and Sun. The complex includes tracks, weight room, and six swimming pools (three specifically for neophytes), high diving and Olympic training.

Plaques of past Hungarian Olympic champions who have trained here adorn the walls. This is where the European Water Polo Championships were hosted in 2001.

Shalimar Gardens

Originally established in 1619 under the direction of Mughal emperor Jahangir and dedicated to his wife, Nur Jahan, the Shalimar Gardens are located on the periphery of Srinagar, some 15 Km from the city center. Spread over 98,000 square meters and laid out over four terraces - the last of which was once reserved for the women of royalty - the gardens are irrigated via a canal fed from the Harwan and lined with fountains. Shalimar is the Sanskrit word for "abode of love."
