This brick Gothic church was part of a 14th-century Cistercian monastery and has a largely original interior. It is one of the loveliest brick Gothic churches in Germany and worth a detour. The gilded high altar dates from around 1310 and is one of the oldest wing altars in Germany. Some of the carved choir stalls (below) date from the early 14th century. The church also has several graves, including many of the dukes of Mecklenburg as well as the grave of Queen Margarete of Denmark (1282). During summer, concerts, especially organ, are held most Fridays at 7:30 pm – bus services are available afterwards to Rostock and Kühlungsborn. From May to September, on Wednesday at 11:45, short organ recitals are given. Opening hours are May to September from 9 am to 6 pm; March, April and October from 10 am to 5 pm; and November to February from 10 am to 4 pm. On Sundays, it is only open after morning services end, around 11:30 am. Admission is Eruo 2. The Münster is in a park inside the riginal walled monastery complex, an easy 10-minute walk from the town center. There is not much else of interest in town, apart from the Molli narrow-guage steam train to the coast.
