Bad Doberan

Bad Doberan can be reached by an hourly train from Rostock in 19 minutes. Cycling, especially from Warnemünde along the coastal cycling path, is also popular.

The main sight in Bad Doberan is the Münster, Klosterstraße 2, 18209 Bad Doberan. This brick Gothic church was part of a 14th-century Cistercian monastery and has a largely original interior. It is one of the loveliest brick Gothic churches in Germany and worth a detour. The gilded high altar dates from around 1310 and is one of the oldes wing altars in Germany. Some of the carved choir stalls (below) date from the early 14th century. The church also has several graves, including many of the dukes of Mecklenburg as well as the grave of Queen Margarete of Denmark (1282). During summer, concerts, especially organ, are held most Fridays at 7:30 pm.

The Münster is in a park inside the original walled monastery complex, an easy 10-minute walk from the town center.

There is not much else of interest in town, apart from the Molli narrow-guage steam train to the coast.
