Built by Vasari to link the Palazzo Vecchio to the Palazzo Pitti (see page 54) through the Uffizi, the Corridoio Vasariano winds its way over the Ponte Vecchio and into the Giardino di Boboli. The route offers incomparable views over the city (and into the old Chiesa di Santa Felicitá), as well as hidden art surprises (works by Andrea del Sarto, Vasari, Rubens, Rembrandt and Fattori lining the corridor). Only recently restored from damage caused by the 1993 Uffizi bombing, access to this half-mile covered passageway is difficult at the best of times, with no consistent yearly pattern in opening hours and days. At the present time, it opens twice a day on Fri and Sat (10:30 am and 3 pm), but as this is set to change; check with the tourist office or on the booking line (055-2654321) on arrival.
