Historical Center of Florence
Piazza del Duomo
Piazza del Duomo, located in the heart of Florence's Historical Center, is perhaps the best of all places to begin a tour of the city's main central sights. And it's relatively easy to get to the square: the red ochre of Brunelleschi’s majestic cupola dominates Florence’s skyline from all vantages.Walk through the winding streets and you’ll see both Giotto’s Campanile suddenly loom up beside it and the brilliance of the richly decorated marble-clad exterior of both the cathedral and the baptistery suddenly come into view. Visitors can frequently be seen approaching open-mouthed and you’d be wise to similarly make the most of your first approach if you are to manage the awaiting traffic noise, the hordes of tourists and the length of the lines with the patience needed.
