Alpharetta, Marrietta, Roswell

Alpharetta

A particularly pretty bedroom community, located approximately 25 miles north of Atlanta on GA 400/Highway 19, Alpharetta has managed to preserve some of its historic main street. Here you can find antique shops, art galleries and coffee shops.

Marietta

A large community, northwest of Atlanta, which still has the flavor of a small Southern town, despite the bustling economic growth. The town was occupied by Union troops during the Civil War, and was spared the destructive forces of Sherman’s troops in their march to the sea.

You’ll discover neighborhoods of 19th-century Victorian homes, antebellum mansions, and modest bungalows. Marietta is also home to “The Big Chicken,” a well-known landmark. Don’t be surprised to be given directions that include “go past The Big Chicken.”

The Square is the epicenter of Marietta’s historic and cultural life, complete with shops, buildings of yesteryear, the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art and the Theatre In The Square, .

Roswell

Settled at about the same time as Buckhead in the late 1830s, and located about 20 minutes north ofdowntown Atlanta, Roswell’s historic area is well known for its antebellum homes. Named for Roswell King, a well-to-do planter, the town began its life as a cotton mill on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The community eventually developed around the mill, and it wasn’t long before large Tudor, Georgian and Colonial mansions began to sprawl along the banks of the river.
