The Alhambra
At the top of any visitor's sightseeing list of Granada ought to be the Alhambra, for the Alhambra is not only the crown jewel of Granada but among the foremost attractions in Spain. It comprises lavish palaces with lush gardens and ornate fountains, strewn amid scarred fortifications and, quite expectedly, overrun by hordes of scurrying tourists. Its location is no less dramatic, situated on a hilltop in the shadows of the Sierra Nevada, overlooking the city. It stands as a monument to Spain's multi-ethnic origins and its mono-cultural destiny, yet offers in it a unique legacy to two distinct cultures.
