Denver Travel Guide

Introduction

Denver is famously the "Mile-High City" – the highest capital city in the continental United States, an entire mile above sea level. Still, the city is not just about altitude, but also attitude! with one of the youngest, healthiest and fittest populations of any city in the U.S. – 20% leaner than that of any other American city! And why wouldn't it be? The city is surrounded by Rocky Mountain peaks, snow-capped in winter, with skiing, hiking, biking, rock climbing, kayaking, trail running and a plethora of outdoor possibilities right in its backyard, not to mention 20,000-plus acres of in-city urban parks – the largest such park system in the nation. The city, besides, is home to the University of Denver and naturally buzzes with youthful energy, offering up excellent and varied arts and cultural venues, good shopping and restaurants, and an effervescent clubbing and night scene. Denver also, as devotees of TV soap operas will recall, is the home of the Carringtons in the series, Dynasty, the competitor and contemporary of prime time Dallas.

Location

Denver is the capital of Colorado, located in the north-central part of the state, South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains, just east of the Rocky Mountains' Front Range. It can be reached by way of Interstate 70 from both the east and west, and on Interstate 25 from the north and south. It also has a major airport that is a hub for Frontier and other airlines, linking it to most major US cities by air.
