Corridoio Vasariano (Vasari's Corridor)
Built by Vasari to link the Palazzo Vecchio to the Palazzo Pitti through the Uffizi, the Corridoio Vasariano winds its way over the Ponte Vecchio and into the Giardino di Boboli. The route offers incomparable views over the city (and into the old Chiesa di Santa Felicitá), as well as hidden art surprises (works by Andrea del Sarto, Vasari, Rubens, Rembrandt and Fattori lining the corridor). Only recently restored from damage caused by the 1993 Uffizi bombing, access to this half-mile covered passageway is difficult at the best of times, with no consistent yearly pattern in opening hours and days.
From the windows of the Uffizi's West Gallery you should already have gotten a good look at the legendary bridge where this tour ends but, for the best pedestrian approach, return to Piazza della Signoria and take Via Vacche Reccia onto Via Por Santa Maria. Here, to your right, you’ll see the 16th-century loggia of the Mercato Nuovo (the New Market).
